This invited lecture will review where the pandemic has been, where it is now, and speculate where it might be going from here. Targeted to the general audience, this will be a good time to learn about the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the infection it causes, COVID-19, and how we are getting out from under this pandemic through diagnosis, treatment, and prevention efforts (including vaccines).
