Name
VT-245 Hands-On Helium Mass Spectrometer Leak Detection_Session #1
Date
Wednesday, April 29, 2026
Time
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Description

The first part will focus on answering the questions listed below and describe the Helium Leak Detector (HLD) features and benefits relevant to the leak testing of vacuum coating equipment.

What are the “usual criteria” that could lead you to believe that your vacuum coater is leaking (slower pump down time, can’t reach your vacuum threshold, the coating result is not to the standard quality, lack of maintenance, wear and tear of pumps, seals etc.)?

What tests can you run to confirm that you have a leaking issue?

The Second part will be focused on the operation of the HLD.

We will have a HLD with some hardware (vacuum lines, maybe a small test chamber, an open style calibrated leak. (TBD).

Program:

  • Training the attendees, from start-up to shut down procedures of the HLD.
  • Going over some of the critical settings.
  • Navigating through the menus.
  • Presenting features such as auto-calibration, auto-zero, leak testing using the graph function, etc.
  • Reviewing the Dos and Don'ts, highlighting the importance of helium management, determining the response time etc.
  • Giving plenty of time to the attendees to get familiar with the HLD and to use the machine.
  • The goal here is to make sure all attendees have the opportunity to operate the HLD.
  • Answering any questions attendees may have.
