The introduction of the VON ARDENNE Beam Control System BCOS in 2018 represented a milestone in latest software technology for electron beam systems. The BCOS software controls all functional components of an electron beam system for beam scanning, focus and power control. Technological process control modules now complete the software solution for industrial coating applications. These BCOR modules handle the specific technological EB coating regimes and control layer parameters based on the implemented measuring systems.
Used at first to control the power distribution of line evaporators in EB web coaters, the control concept allows implementation of other electron beam process control algorithms, e.g. for multiple spot evaporation sources.
The presentation demonstrates how layer properties and layer homogeneity are maintained within specification for installed EB coaters.
